People throughout my life have always been very quick to tell me I am wrong or doing the wrong things, but we so rarely hear what we are doing right.
I believe ‘nature’ is responsible for the damage while it’s up to ‘nurture’ to deal with the fallout. I believe behavior is learned by example as well as the responses to this behavior.
As long as I didn’t understand what trauma is – telling myself instead to just “get over” it – I placed a stigma on my own experiences, and never truly allowed myself to heal.
For me, working with clay and ceramics is the ideal distraction to keep me off the drink. It’s hard to throw a pot with a can of Fosters in my hand! I find it relaxing and it helps to reduce my anxiety – all food for helping with the symptoms of PTSD.
